In a meeting in U.S, Kenyans currently abroad who have organized themselves to form a 2012 Platform team discussed the future of Kenya. The Independent minded team plans to grow and develop the independent minded Kenyans who shall vie and win the 47 senate seats, 47 governor seats, the 290 constituency seats, 47 women seats and the county assembly seats. Once the Platform team is completely constituted the team expects to draw/share similarities to the U.S 1992 Olympics Basketball Dream team that was made of the best talent in basketball in U.S at that time. Just like the Dream team won the Olympic gold, the Platform team led by the best Kenya talent currently abroad will deliver the gold medal for economic development to Kenyans by by pursuing and implementing bills as well as policies that will grow Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the current $65b to $200b by 2017. This will be realized by an increase in goods and services produced in Kenya as well as the strengthening of the Kenya shilling.

Headed by the Ministry of Information, Konza City Project master plan is a beauty. Said to be conceptualized based on 5,000 Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) jobs, if it materializes, it will be an exciting city to live and invest in. It is currently estimated to lead to developments of about Kshs 800 billion. The Kenya Abroad 2012–2017 Platform is studying this project in an effort to create a Project bill that once instituted will enable this vision and other good visions to succeed while at the same time protecting public money invested. Based on news articles, the public has invested close to Kshs 3 billion in Konza City broken down to: Kshs 1 billion buying of land, money used in establishing the designed concept and funding of the ICT board developing the project.

Peter Kenneth on East Africa Radio U.S answered questions from Kenyans abroad. Laban calling from Houston and many others seemed more concerned as to whether Ruto and Uhuru will be on the ballot, and what the outcome of ICC will be. Peter Kenneth was not so much interested on talking about this. He was thinking toward the future. “We cannot be held by the past. I’m dealing with issues and looking to unite people by issues and not tribes,” he said. Peter Gachuiri calling from St Louis commented, “A lone ranger will go nowhere.” Gachuri did not say how he established the analysis that Peter Kenneth was alone and how he was able to know how 20 million voters in Kenya are thinking. Gachuiri also made a comment that, “I believe we are not there!” This in reference to Kenya not been ready for development like the U.S. Gachuiri did not say which year the U.S got “there” or which year he expects Kenya to get “there.” To this type of thinking Peter Kenneth noted, “I would not like to be counted for one thinking backward and not forward.”

2009 Kenya census established the country having a population of 38.6 million people and allocated this population to the 47 counties. The constitution further states that 290 constituencies are to be established to represent the people based on Article 89 that gives guidelines like, “as nearly as possible to quota” and other considerations. The Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission IEBC has allocated constituencies and the debate has started. In trying to find out where the discussion will head to, we asked Hon Njoroge Baiya the Chairman of Justice Committee and current Member of Parliament for Githunguri and John Macharia, currently based in Florida, who has expressed interest to serve as Senator of Nairobi County through the Kenyans Abroad 2012 - 2017 Platform the same questions on this topic.

A dry region in nature, littered with shrubs and scattered trees, the beautiful green sisal plants captivate the eye as one stares at this long lines of plants. One of the big sisal farms is located at the outskirts of Voi town and can be viewed while standing at Petro Petrol Station. “The big farm is owned solely by a Mr. Basil Criticos,” a local tells me about the Sisal estate that is not only a lifeline but is also a big employer in a region that is full of squatters and many landless.
